Call for Hamp Baseball Memorabilia

Does the name "Colby Jack" Coombs mean anything to you? Besides being the author of a best-selling book on baseball, Coombs pitched for Connie Mack's Philadelphia "A's", winning the World Series in 1910. Coombs began his baseball career in Northampton, pitching for the Northampton Meadowlarks in 1904. Northampton, like many New England towns fielded professional and semi-professional teams for years, going back at least to the 1850s. These colorful teams often played big city teams like the Boston Beaneaters.
Next spring an exhibit at Historic Northampton will celebrate the history of America's pastime in Northampton. We are seeking baseball memorabilia relating to Northampton's teams or players, including the legendary Florence Eagles. Please call Historic Northampton (413-584-6011) or email (mailbox@historic-northampton.org) if you have any materials or information.
